Tournament Format
Team Budget
Each team will have a specific budget to create its roster. This budget can be used to acquire:
- Players.
- Assistant coaches.
- Cheerleaders.
- Apothecaries.
- Fans.
- Star Players, provided the team is allowed to include them.
- Any incentive included in the Common Inducements list from the core rulebook, except Prayers to Nuffle and Wizard.
Acquiring inducements must follow the usual rules established in the official Blood Bowl rulebook. Each race will have a specific budget, indicated in the team table in these rules.
Skill Gold
In addition to the budget for team creation, each roster will have a specific amount of Skill Gold.
This Skill Gold can be used to:
- Acquire Primary and Secondary skills without limit (but Attribute improvements are not allowed).
- Stack skills. Each player can have a maximum of 2 Primary skills acquired, but an extra cost must be paid for this (see Stacking below).
- Skill costs are the same as indicated in the manual (20K Primary, 40K Secondary, and +10K for Elite skills).
- Extra cost for Star Players (see Star Players section).
There is no general limit on the number of skills that can be acquired for the team, as long as individual player restrictions and the available budget are respected.
Skill costs are as follows:
- Primary skill: 20,000 gold pieces.
- Secondary skill: 40,000 gold pieces.
- Elite skills: normal cost indicated in the rulebook, plus 10,000 gold pieces.
Discounted Skills
The following skills can be acquired at a reduced cost. A single team player with Primary access to one of these skills may acquire one of them for 10,000 gold pieces.
The skill acquired through this discount cannot be part of a stacked skill combination.
The skills available at a discount are:
- Eye Gouge.
- Fumblerooski.
- Diving Catch.
- Safe Pair of Hands.
- Sidestep.
- Taunt.
- Very Long Legs.
- Big Hand.
- On the Ball.
- Dump-off.
- Arm Bar.
- Thick Skull.
The discount can only be used once per team and only on a player with Primary access to the selected skill.
Stacking Skills
A player can have a maximum of two Primary skills acquired.
For a player to have two Primary skills, the normal cost of both skills must be paid, plus an additional cost of 30,000 gold pieces.
Therefore, a player with two Primary skills must pay:
- The cost of the first Primary skill.
- The cost of the second Primary skill.
- An additional surcharge of 30,000 gold pieces.
Some teams will have one or several players who can have two Primary skills without needing to pay this additional surcharge. This advantage is called Free Stack.
Teams that have Free Stack can use it on the number of players indicated in their configuration.
They may also have other players with two Primary skills, as long as they pay the additional surcharge of 30,000 gold pieces.
Star Players
Only teams that are expressly allowed to include Star Players may do so.
The inclusion of a Star Player must respect the usual hiring rules and the restrictions specifically established for the Magellan Cup.
In addition to the normal cost of the Star Player within the team budget, an additional cost must be paid using Skill Gold.
The additional cost depends on the Star Player's value:
- From 0K to 100K: 30K
- From 100K to 199K: 60K
- From 200K to 299K: 90K
- From 400K or higher: 120K
Teams that can include between zero and two Star Players cannot exceed 300,000 gold pieces in the total combined value of both Star Players.
The additional cost must be paid individually for each Star Player hired.
If two rival coaches have included the same Star Player on their respective teams, both may use it during their match.
There will be a specific list of Star Players not allowed in the Magellan Cup.
