With growth comes new challenges, including having lots of coaches fighting it out at the top of the standings, all clumped together with the same record. So, like the NAF Majors, the CCKO will now be a 2-day, 6-round tournament. Yes, that's right, we're adding a game. But don't worry about your drive home, you'll see from the schedule that Saturday will have 4 games, leaving 2 to the Sunday.
Saturday, January 16
Sunday, January 17
Take-Aways:
FAQ: The CCKO will use the BB2025 rules as clarified in the Blood Bowl FAQs - Game Designer's Notes (the FAQ). The FAQ was last updated in May, 2026, and is due to be updated again in November. We will implement the rules therein. You can find them here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/wqewdcvv/blood-bowl-faqs-games-designers-notes/
NAF Recommendations & Clarifications: For topics not covered in the FAQ, the CCKO will rely on the NAF's "Recommendations and Clarifications for BB2025", which can be found here: https://www.thenaf.net/naf-recommendations-and-clarifications-for-bb2025/
Prone & Stunned Players: There are now clear options for how coaches can maintain their prone and stunned players upright and yet have these players' status easily identified (status bands, etc). Discuss this topic with your opponents prior to your matches and arrive at an agreement. If you cannot reach an agreement, please resort to historic practices of laying miniatures either face down or face up.
Stalling: There is a mechanism to punish stalling on pages 80 & 81 of the BB2025 rulebook. These rules, like those for Illegal Procedure in BB2016 (which the NAF did not enforce), are open to abuse, particularly by experienced coaches. Therefore the stalling rules will not be used, as per the NAF ruling giving discretion on this question to Tournament Organizers.
Dice: Registrants will be given dice upon checking in ahead of Round One on Saturday, January 17. These tournament dice should be used, however, we will also permit the use of NAF dice, official Blood Bowl dice, GLAM dice, and past CCKO dice.
Dice Down: There will be two visible clocks marking the progress of time, each one visible to the facing of each coach. When the clock counts down to zero, the Tournament Organizer will yell, "Dice down." Please roll no more dice. The game shall then end. The Zero Roll Continuation: However, if a game can be concluded without the rolling of any further dice, a last turn may continue. So, for example, if your opponent was delaying ending his/her/their Turn 16 and the clock hits zero, if you can score on your Turn 16 simply by having your ball carrier activate and move into the end zone, by all means activate the player and score. Again, this explicitly means there can be no rolling of a Rush or attempting a Dodge.
Re-Rolls: Following debate online about re-rolls, the CCKO does not permit the use of re-rolls of any roll that requires a template, be it the scatter template or the throw-in template. For example, Goblin coaches cannot re-roll the direction of their Ball & Chain nor of their Chainsaw (Doom Diver). Note: the NAF explicitly permits re-rolling the direction or distance when using the Punt and Swoop skills. These shall be our only exception to the rule regarding templates.
If coaches realize a specific sequence of rolls was not done in the correct order (e.g., if in a Throw Team-mate Action, the Landing roll was already made, but the Coach forgot about rolling for Always Hungry), that sequence should be repeated from the point of error.
Roster Submission: Rosters are due by Saturday, January 9, 2027. Please use a roster builder such as bbtc.pl and send the PDF to: OttawaGatineauBloodBowl@gmail.com
CCKO'27 is the last year that we will feature a theme team. From 2028 onwards we will have a thematic challenge that all teams can contest, albeit some races might be better-equipped for success in any particular year. We hope this means participants won't have to face the same race many times over in the same tourney.
That said, we still have a theme team for 2027 and it is: Chaos Dwarfs!
CCKO Theme Team Special Rule: All Chaos Dwarf coaches can give Monstrous Mouth to two of their Blockers for free.
Custom CCKO Miniatures by UGNI: All CCKO registrants will receive 2 Chaos Dwarf Blocker miniatures as part of the tournament swag. Our intention is to gift these miniatures to coaches immediately upon registration so that they have the time to paint them up and integrate them into their Chaos Dwarf teams before January.
As per our special Chaos Dwarf rule, we commissioned UGNI to craft these two Chaos Dwarf Blockers with the Monstrous Mouth mutation. And doing a great job painting these guys up can win you a Best Painted prize!
General Guidelines: Teams will consist of a minimum of 11 and a maximum of 16 players, including Star Players. Stars may count towards the minimum of 11. Cash given is also used to buy rerolls, assistant coaches, cheerleaders, apothecary and so on. Rostering Star Players requires spending Skill Points and their cost in gold. Star Players cannot be given extra skills from the team's skill budget. If both opposing teams field the same Star Player in a game, both are allowed to play. Star Players count as Rostered Players for teams with "Insignificant" players. Total spending on Star Players cannot exceed 250,000 gold pieces.
Any unspent cash at roster creation will be lost and all teams will be considered having the same Current Team Value (CTV) for the purpose of inducements and prayers to Nuffle.
The CCKO is a resurrection tourney. No SPPs are gained and injuries, casualties or deaths do not carry over from one game to the next.
Teams with the Masters of Undeath and Plague Ridden special rules can apply them. Players added to a team roster through a game as a result of these special rules are removed from the roster at the end of that game.
Each team falls into 1 of 5 tiers. Teams in tiers 1-3 cannot roster Star Players. For teams in tiers 4 & 5, there is a limit of 250K that coaches can spend to roster any and all Star Players. This means many Stars face a de facto ban beyond those explicitly listed.
*After team creation, Chaos Dwarf teams may add Monstrous Mouth to two Blockers for free as per the tournament theme rule.
Super Stars: Black Gobbo, Bomber Dribblesnot, Cindy Piewhistle, Eldril Sidewinder, Grak & Crumbleberry, Kreek Rustgouger, Maple Highgrove, Mighty Zug, Skrog Snowpelt.
Banned: Hakflem Skuttlespike, Ripper Bolgrot, Skitter Stab-Stab, Swiftvine Glimmershard.
Permitted Inducements are as follows:
There are two special rules that set the CCKO apart from most tournaments:
As per recent CCKO tradition, we have designated one team we see only rarely at regional tournaments and incorporated a special rule to promote their play. In 2027, the theme team is Chaos Dwarfs. The special rule to give them a minor buff has already been unveiled. To remind: all Chaos Dwarf coaches may give Monstrous Mouth to two of their Blockers for free after adding Additional Skills; and,
The traditional skills draft, now shifted from the end of Day 1 to the beginning of Day 2, will remain in place, albeit with streamlined rules.
The skills draft is CCKO tradition. However, with the growing number of coaches, the time required to do the draft has grown. The new approach outlined below is quicker and will allow us to wrap up Day 2 earlier, allowing coaches to begin their travel home sooner.
At the beginning of Day 2, the skills draft will occur. Starting with the teams with the fewest ranking points, then going up the general ranking in groupings of 10 teams, each coach will be able to choose up to two additional skills.
Any chosen skill must be accessible to the target player (for example, a Wood Elf will not be able to obtain the Two Heads skill).
If two skills are added to a team, each must be assigned to different players. However, the targeted players may have received one or more skills during the Additional Skills stage during initial team building.
Please note that if the number of participating teams is, say, 84, the category 91-100 on the grid will be ignored.
You will have from the end of Day 1 to the beginning of Day 2 to consider your choices (overnight). At 08:30, present yourself to the Registration table and report your selections. A Tournament Organizer will approve them with a stamp that you can show to your adversaries in Rounds 5 & 6.
Points will be awarded each game as follows:
Tiebreakers:
*Please note: a Casualty will be awarded for any opposition Casualty that would generate Star Player Points (SPPs) for a coach's player. Please take good note of this provision because in the BB2025 rules, some skills allow for the accumulation of SPPs that have historically not generated SPPs. For example, if you have a Chaos Warrior with Arm Bar and a player kills himself dodging away from your Chaos Warrior, in a league that would generate SPPs, so in the CCKO that would count as a casualty. That's just one example; in BB2025 there are more!
There are trophies for:
*Qualification for the Stunty Cup: Winning the Stunty Cup should be a prize worthy of the historic prestige of such cups rather than going to a team that has simply been a Star Player caddy. Thus, in order to compete for the Stunty Cup, all players on your team must either... For example, a Snotling team that hires Glart Smashrip would render the team ineligible for the Stunty Cup. However, a Halfling team with Puggy Baconbreath would be eligible to win the Stunty Cup.
Best Painted: We are pleased to announce our 2026 winner, CAM on the NAF, has agreed to be our judge for 2027. And this year we have TWO awards! Also, please note, coaches are asked to submit minis for consideration for only one of the two Best Painted awards. You may either submit the two Chaos Dwarf blockers alone OR as part of your team submission if you are playing Chaos Dwarfs.
Share the Wealth: A coach who wins one performance trophy will not be eligible to win another with the exception of the Wooden Spoon.
In addition to the prizes noted above, and as per past CCKO tradition, we will have a special prize for a theme-team related remarkable achievement. Now, you don't have to coach Chaos Dwarfs to get in on the fun; all you need is a Monstrous Mouth mutation somewhere in your line up.
The Biggest Biter prize will go to the coach who accumulates the most Chomp Points. You can accumulate a Chomp Point by imposing the Chomped condition on an opponent and having that opponent still Chomped by the beginning of your subsequent team turns.
So, at the beginning of each of your team turns, count the number of opponents presently Chomped by your players. Add that number to your running total. Note: this means one Chomped action could potentially generate multiple points over a series of turns. Also Note: as currently interpreted, a player who has Chomped an opponent may Chomp another opposing player, meaning one player with Monstrous Mouth may generate more than one Chomp Point each turn.
At the end of each of your games, enter your final total of your Chomp Points into BBTM.app.
When the time comes to hand out the glittering prizes, you might just find yourself crowned the Biggest Biter.
