Welcome
Welcome to the second instalment of the annual Scottish Team Championship, an opportunity for us to settle our differences on the pitch and battle for the title of the best league in the country. In 2024 we had 20 teams battling it out, and I’m hoping 2025 will be bigger and better.
The format is simple - coaches can sign up in teams of 4 to battle it out against other teams to see who the Scottish Team Championship winner is! In 2025 we have the potential to scale up to 200 coaches (50 teams), so it will be the perfect opportunity to settle the argument once and for all (until 2026 anyway….).
If that isn't enough for you, this tournament will be NAF sanctioned (application is currently being submitted).
Details
Cost: £180 per Squad of 4 coaches
Ticket sales will open 28th July 2024 at 10am
Team Captains to send the £180 via PayPal to amsfeld@googlemail.com
Roster Deadline: 1st May 2025
Date: Saturday 17th and 18th May 2025
What will I need?
• A device to allow you to record game results on TourPlay
• Dice: 3 x block dice, 2 x D6, 1 x D8, 1 x D12, 1 x D16.
• Painted miniatures representing your team. There are no manufacturers restrictions for your models, however you need to ensure that your models are clearly marked/numbered so that your opponent can easily identify which model is which positional and what added skills they have
Tournament Rules
At its core the tournament rules will follow current NAF guidelines for all NAF tournaments. Any changes made to these guidelines between the date this pack is released, and 30th April 2025 will be incorporated into the rules pack and notifications will be added to the Scottish Team Championship Facebook Event page.
As in previous years, there is likely to be a GW FAQ / Errata released in May 2025. In previous years this has been at the end of the month, however, if it is released early, the rules changes and clarifications in it will be implemented immediately in line with NAF guidelines. If there are changes that fundamentally impact the team you have selected (i.e. the removal of swarming to Underworld) I will consider requests to make changes on a case by case basis.
What Kind of Tournament is This?
The tournament is a resurrection style tournament. This means that all rosters will be reset after each round. Your players will not gain any SPP throughout the matches, no casualties will continue into the next match, and you will earn no additional income after matches.
Round Times
Rounds will have a 2 hour and 15 minutes time limit. Chess clocks and timing apps may be used at the request of the player, however you will need to organise these yourselves.
This time limit will be strictly enforced with a 30 minute and 10-minute warning given by one of the TO's. At the end of the time limit the call “time” will be given. At this point you will be allowed to resolve your current move/block and then you are expected to stop playing.
Team Rules
Teams of four coaches compete against one another in five rounds of Blood Bowl. In round 1, teams will be randomly paired against each other, with coaches within each team also randomly paired. From Rounds 2 onwards, teams will be matched against opposing teams with similar points score based on the overall ranking. This follows the familiar "Swiss" system used in many Blood Bowl tournaments. From here on, individual matches within the team tie will also be allocated using the Swiss system.
Teams earn points as follows each round:
Team Win: 2 Points
Team Tie: 1 Point
Team Loss: 0 Points
Tie Breakers
Teams on the same points during the tournament and for final standings will be ranked using a system of tiebreakers in the following order:
1. Win / Draw Ratio
2. TD difference
3. CAS difference
4. Buchholz
5. Score (direct confrontations)
Awards
We will be awarding trophies for the following categories:
• Tournament Champions (team)
• Runners Up (team)
• Top Scottish League – all squad members must be from the same Scottish league (team)
• Top Coach – must have finished in the top 5 Squads to be eligible (individual)
• Most CAS (individual)
• Most TDs (individual)
• Best Painted (individual)
• Wooden Spoon (team)
Refunds
If anything happens and your team are no longer able to attend the Scottish Team Championship, we will offer a full team refund until 1st February 2025. If you have an individual coach drop out of your team you should hopefully be able to find a replacement to replace them. As TO, I will note any individuals who are interested in filling gaps within teams, however I cannot guarantee that they will be available.
Squad Building
As above, Squads are made up of four coaches.
The first rule of team building, is that you cannot have duplicate teams. For example, a Squad cannot have two Vampire teams.
The second rule is that you must have a mix of tiers within the Squad. Each Squad starts with 17 points, and teams within Squads are purchased with the points cost per tier below. If you have points left at the end of Squad selection, they are all lost, and you don’t gain any additional benefit.
Tier Points Team
1 6 Amazons, Chaos Dwarf, Dark Elf, Dwarf, Lizardman, Shambling Undead, Skaven, Underworld Denizens
2 5 Humans, Norse, Orcs, Wood Elf
3 4 High Elf, Necromantic Horror, Tomb Kings, Vampires
4 3 Black Orcs, Elven Union, Imperial Nobility, Khorne, Slann
5 2 Chaos Chosen, Chaos Renegades, Gnomes, Nurgle, Old World Alliance, Snotlings
6 1 Goblins, Halflings, Ogres
The third (and final) rule is that if you have teams that can take star players (see next page), each Star Player or Mega Star can only be taken once per Squad.
