Rule Set v0.1
10 years, we’ve been rolling the block dice. 10 years, we’ve been scoring touchdowns. 10 years, we’ve been slicing players in twain with chainsaws. The Empire Cup returns with its 10th iteration and is ready to celebrate this milestone, while still allowing Amorical Cup attendees a chance to try out their builds. This is the LAST time you’ll get to play these rosters in a tournament format before they are due on May 1st!
As always, it’s a resurrection-style tournament, meaning that any injuries sustained in one game will not carry over to the next. The tournament will be one day and feature three guaranteed games for participating teams.
Empire Cup is also part of the Northeast Blood Bowl Network. Participating coaches qualify for NEBBN points whether they reside in the region or not. Please contact the Empire Cup IX tournament organizer at empirecupbb@gmail.com for more information. Points available for this tournament are listed at the bottom of the document.
What you should bring:
• Your Painted Team
• Two printed copies of your team roster, using the BB Roster, found at https://bbroster.com/.
• Good sportsmanship
• (optional) A Blood Bowl Pitch (custom to standard specs or from the board game itself), dugouts, and templates.
Note that we will be using BB Tournament Manager (BBTM.app) to manage the tournament. To make for the best experience for all coaches (and the tournament organizer!) please have your rosters submitted no later than Wednesday April 22nd for inclusion in the BBTM app.
Team Creation
Teams will receive a roster and skill point budget based on tier. Coaches can assign Primary (1pt) and Secondary (2pts) skills. Stacking of two primaries is allowed depending on Tier, with a cost of +1 Skill Point (e.g., two primary skills on one player = 3 pts). You may not include a Secondary Skill in a stack. Only four (4) of a particular Elite Skill (i.e., Block, Dodge, Guard, Mighty Blow) may be added to a roster.
Tier Roster Budget Skill Points Max Stacks
1: Amazon, Lizardmen, Old World Alliance, Vampire, Wood Elf 1,150,000 5 0
2: Dark Elf, Necromantic, Norse, Nurgle, Orc, Shambling Undead 1,160,000 6 0

6: Gnomes, Goblin, Halfling, Ogre, Snotling 1,200,000 10 2 (+1 SP each)
Star Players
Each coach must purchase 11 players before including a star or mega-star players. Highlander rule is in effect for star players in individual matchups (both teams may not have the same star player – if they do, the star takes their money and spends it in the local brewery on nachos and beer).
Star players may be purchased using a team's skill points. Mega-stars cost 4 pts extra. Duo stars will not have an additional tax for the second star beyond the original skill tax, though many are listed as Mega-stars. If new star players are released prior to April 1, 2026, they may be designated as additional mega-stars in addition to the ones below. No Stars released after April 1, 2026 will be included in the tournament.

NAF Commentary and Other Rules

Tenth Anniversary Rules
Blood Bowl is a rowdy game. But the crowds are even rowdier! The dedicated fans on your team have been preparing for this tournament for quite some time! Every time that the crowd gets involved, a special Empire Cup die must be rolled. The die represents how emphatic your crowd is! The possible results are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, X (ten). Whenever an “X” is rolled on the die, the coach should yell “TEN!”.
The results for each event are below:
• Crowd surf: When a player is surfed, fans get right in the mix to aid or punish the player in the stands. The coaches will roll off. The difference in the die rolls is applied to the Injury Roll in the favor of the coach that won the roll. For example, if a player on Team A is surfed, and the coach for Team B won the roll by 3, then the injury roll has a +3 modifier. However, if the coach for Team A won the roll by 4, then the roll has a -4 modifier. Results below 1 or above 12 may be explained by a fanciful story but have no game impact.
• Any roll on the kickoff table that has a D3 modifier: The fans are raucously rooting for their team during the kickoff in anticipation of the next drive and may have inspired their team! The coaches will roll off. Whoever wins the roll will have the option of adding or subtracting 1 from the roll. If the result is an “X” on one of the dice, they also modify the result to either the maximum (3) or minimum (0), whichever is to their advantage. Should they both roll an “X”, then they yell “TEN” as normal and be disappointed that there is no modifier as there was no winner.
• Sent Off: When a player fouls and is caught by the referee, the fans have a VERY strong opinion about it. After the foul is resolved and doubles were rolled either in the Armor or Injury roll, the coaches will roll off. Whoever wins the roll will have the option of adding or subtracting 1 from the roll. If the result is an “X” on one of the dice, that coach may automatically inflict the result of sending the player off or keeping them in the game as they see fit. If both coaches roll an “X”, then they yell “TEN” as normal and the referee gets scared that all the fans will come after him. Both coaches get a free bribe.
• Throw-in: The crowd is going to make sure their team gets the ball exactly where they need it! If the ball enters the crowd, the coaches will roll off. Whoever wins the roll will have the option of adding or subtracting 1 from the distance roll. If they tie, the distance roll is not modified. If the result of one of the dice is an “X”, the coach may also modify the direction roll by adding or subtracting 1. If both of the dice are an “X”, then they yell “TEN” as normal but there is no extra modifier as they are tied.
Scoring
Scoring will go as follows:
• Win: 10pts
• Draw: 5pts
• Loss: 1pts
Ties will be broken by strength of competition (measured by opponents’ total score). In case of a further tie, it will be Sum of TD and Casualty differential, TD differential and touchdowns scored. If it is still tied, the coaches will roll 10 block dice with the most POWs ranking higher (keep going in case of a tie).
Note that we play Brooklyn Rules here – stabs, secret weapons, fouls and crowd surfs can amass casualty points! So can the crowd!
Awards
There will be several awards that will be given at this year’s Empire Cup. Note that coaches may only win one of these awards with two exceptions noted below. The coach may choose which of the awards they are eligible to win to take.
• The Montauk Lighthouse Award (1st place)
• The Orient Point Award (2nd place)
• The StaTEN Island Award (finished tenth in the tournament)
• The Snob Costas Award (best stunty team)
• The Suffolk Award (most touchdowns)
• The Brooklyn Award (most casualties)
• The Nassau Award (sportsmanship – can be won by a winner of another award)
• The Soho Award (best painted team - can be won by a winner of another award)
