General Rules
Please consult the Rules for NAF Tournaments. If you have questions please contact the Tournament Organizer before the event. The above will be used unless stated below. The exhibition Prayers to Nuffle table will be used.
Team Building Rules
You will have 970K gold pieces to build your team. You may purchase players, rerolls, dedicated fans, apothecary, coaches, cheerleaders, and other inducements as normal with this gold (Excluding Fabulous Freebooters!). The only teams that may hire star players are stunty teams. You must have 11 players before hiring star players. Stunty teams are defined as any team with all Stunty or strength 5+ players before hiring stars. This allows teams that are not always considered stunty!
Bloodweiser Kegs are not allowed! Bugman does not allow inferior beverages at his event.
Mega stars (based on latest FAQ) have their cost increased by 40k gold.
Skills
You can not add skills to players gained through inducements. I.e. star players, mercs, etc.
Players with Block can have one General skill added.
Players without Block gain Block.
Weather Table
The Subterranean Weather Table, from Death Zone page 78, will be used for all weather rolls. The initial weather each round will be Perfect Conditions. Weather changes occur as normal during each game.
Resurrection
At the end of each round of the tournament, all players are healed of any injuries and dead players come back to life.
Pairings (VERY IMPORTANT)
Pairings are not swiss! Each round, every coach will have the opportunity to bid to select their next opponent. The unpaired coach with the highest bid selects a coach to play who has the same or more points in the tournament. This is repeated until there are no unpaired coaches. ALL money bid will go to charity (even if a coach is selected by someone else before they have an opportunity to select).
Special Rules
Josef Bugman is providing his own special brew to all KOed players. It is guaranteed to get them back on the pitch. At the end of each drive every player with at least one bread tie will have one bread tie removed from the player. Then any player in the KO box will have two bread ties added to the player and be moved to the Reserves box. At the end of the game all bread ties are removed.
Players with one bread tie have the following skill:
Drunk -- The player is drunk and easily distracted. Because of this you must roll a D6 immediately after declaring an Action for the player, but before taking the Action. On a roll of 1 he stands around goofing off. The player’s activation ends immediately. Additionally, This player loses their Tackle Zone until they are next activated.
Players with two bread ties have the following skill:
Really Drunk -- This skill is the same as Drunk, except the die roll is modified by -1 for each player of either team in an adjacent square that is Drunk, Really Drunk, or Wasted.
Players with three or more bread ties have the following skill:
Wasted -- A Wasted player has all of the effects of the No Hands skill and the Ball & Chain skill.
(Note: To become wasted a player must be KOed in two consecutive drives.)
The coach of a Drunk or Really Drunk player may choose the order of Drunk, Really Drunk, Bone-head, Really Stupid, Wild Animal, Unchanneled Fury, Bloodlust, and Animal Savagery.
Other Rules
Play till the whistle blows. There is no championship game. The standings will solely be determined by total points. Overtime will not be played in any round.
Time
Once the tournament official calls time, Coaches will play until equal turns have been played.
Dice
You and your opponent must agree on dice to use, otherwise dice will be provided.
GW or NAF Block Dice only
You must be willing to share dice with your opponent.
Agree before the game on cocked dice, dice off the table, etc, please just be consistent.
Painting & Modeling
All teams are expected to meet the minimum painted guidelines. The coach must attempt to make all figures appear finished. Each figure should also be identifiable so that the opponent can know their position and skills.
Scoring
0 point if you lose
1 point if you draw
2 points if you win
Awards
To win an award the coach must play in all rounds. Tiebreakers will be determined by the Tournament Organizer as needed. (Examples include for Champion the first tiebreaker could be strength of schedule and for Best Offense the first tiebreaker could be the highest Touchdown differential.) The Tournament Organizer reserves the right to adjust the award winners in the best interest of the tournament. (For example, if a coach would win two awards one of the awards may be given to another coach.)
Bugman’s Champion - First place team in standings with the most overall points
Bugman’s Runner-Up - Second place team in standings with the most overall points
Bugman’s Pint-Sized Champion - Stunty team in standings with the most overall points
Bugman’s Bottom - Coach that finished lowest in standings with the fewest overall points
Bugman’s Best Sport - Player who received the most favorite opponent votes
Bugman’s Best Defense - Team that allowed the fewest TDs
Bugman’s Buffest - Team that suffered the least Casualties that would normally generate Star Player Points
Bugman’s Brawler - Team that caused the most Casualties that would normally generate Star Player Points
Art Award
The winner (if present) of the 2024 Art Award, will be picking the winner of this award. It will go to the person that they believe most artistically represented the tournament and is willing to accept the attached obligations. Consideration will be given for presentation, concept, and execution of the team in relation to the theme of the tournament. The winner will receive a free entry next year. They will also be responsible for making the prize and choosing the Art Award winner at Bugman’s Bowl 2025.
Sportsmanship
We are here for the fun of the game. Sportsmanship is not only encouraged from the coaches, it is required! We all have bad luck occasionally, but bad behavior will be addressed by the Tournament Organizer!
Fouling 16 turns in a row, stalling, or running up the score is not poor sportsmanship, but gloating and ridiculing your opponent is.
The Last Word
The Tournament Organizer will be the final arbitrator for any interpretation of the rules. The rules may change without notice. Please check the version number.
